The Energy Spectra of Electron Microbursts Between 200 keV and 1 MeV

This study investigates the energy spectrum of electron microbursts observed by Focused Investigations Relativistic Electron Burst Intensity, Range, and Dynamics II (FIREBIRD-II, henceforth FIREBIRD) CubeSats. FIREBIRD is a pair CubeSats, launched in January 2015 into low Earth orbit, which focuses on studying microbursts. High-resolution data from FIREBIRD-II consist 5 differential channels between 200 keV 1 MeV integral channel. covers an range that has not been well studied orbit with good time resolution. aims to improve understanding scattering mechanism behind investigating their spectral properties relationship equatorial population under different geomagnetic conditions. Microbursts are identified region North Atlantic where only observes electrons bounce loss cone. The flux exponential each microburst calculated using instrument response modeled GEANT4 (GEometry ANd Tracking) compared near-equatorial spectra measured Van Allen Probes. occurring when Auroral Electrojet (AE) index enhanced tend carry more relatively higher energies. efficient at lower energies; however, difference efficiency high reduced during periods AE.
